UoH Conference highlights role of technology in education
UoH Vice Chancellor Prof. B.J. Rao spoke about the need for critical thinking and self-awareness in education. He stressed that education builds the mind, while technology is just an aid

Hyderabad: Technology in education is a powerful tool, but it can never replace the human mind. That was the main takeaway from experts at a two-day national conference, ‘Trends and Insights in Educational Technology Post-NEP 2020;, which began on Monday at the University of Hyderabad (UoH). The event focused on changes after NEP 2020 and brought together academics and policymakers to discuss how technology should support, not overshadow, real learning.
Governor Jishnu Dev Varma called the NEP a "historic step" that could shape the future of every child. He spoke about India’s long tradition of teacher-student learning and said education should be about more than just using digital tools. Technology, he warned, has both good and bad sides. It should be handled responsibly so that it benefits society rather than causing harm.
UoH Vice Chancellor Prof. B.J. Rao spoke about the need for critical thinking and self-awareness in education. He stressed that education builds the mind, while technology is just an aid. Learning, he said, should not stop at textbooks but should prepare students for the real world.
The conference, organised by the department of education and education technology, will continue on Tuesday with discussions on experiential learning, inquiry-based teaching, and ways to balance digital tools with real-world education. Professors J.V. Madhusudhan and Ravula Krishnaiah coordinated the event and brought together experts from across the country.
