UoH VC Calls for Collective Action Against Drug Menace

Hyderabad: University of Hyderabad Vice Chancellor Prof. B.J. Rao on Friday called for collective action to combat the drug menance, while unveiling posters of the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TG-NAB).

Prof. Rao stressed the alarming consequences of drug abuse, linking it to a rise in social atrocities. “The fight against drugs cannot be left to a few individuals or organisations. It requires a united effort across all sections of society, especially in educational institutions, to root out this problem at the earliest,” he said.

Dr Devesh Nigam, UoH registrar, spoke about the need for widespread awareness programmes to educate students and the public about the dangers of substance abuse. “Awareness is the first step towards prevention,” he said.

Dr B. Krishnaiah, NSS coordinator at UoH, announced plans to hold awareness campaigns and anti-drug drives in partnership with the TG-NAB. The

initiatives aim to bring the fight to the grassroots level, encouraging students and the wider community to join hands in curbing drug abuse.
