UPSC rankers pledge to fund Sukanya Samriddhi accounts for 100 underprivileged girls


HYDERABAD: It was a memorable Saturday for 100 girls from underprivileged sections as they were empowered with Sukanya Samriddhi accounts, under the aegis of the Indian postal department, which distributed account passbooks as part of the ‘Spoorthy’ programme it organised at the Jamia Osmania post office.

Incidentally, the account opening was facilitated by 64 UPSC 2024 rankers, who were later felicitated for their brilliant performance in the UPSC test. n ceremony for the 64 UPSC rankers who played a vital role in opening the accounts. The rankers spoke about the advantages and financial support such accounts would fetch the girls.

The event was graced by T.M. Sreelatha, postmaster general, headquarters Region; and senior officials E.S. Narasimha Reddy, Rami Reddy and Anurag Singh.

Sreelatha said that the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, which the central government launched in 2015 under the "Beti bachao, beti padhao" campaign aimed at securing a bright future for the girls.

She emphasised that the scheme has reduced female feticide in the country, while many such female account holders utilised the funds for their education and marriages.

According to data, as of April this year, approximately 3,89,24,105 accounts have been opened nationwide. Of these,10,54,062 accounts were opened in Telangana significantly contributing to the bright future of many girls.
