Urban Flooding Issues Persist in Hyderabad Despite Promised Solutions
HYDERABAD: The issue of urban flooding has not been addressed in the last nine years. After the city witnessed floods in 2020, the BRS launched the `985.45 crore strategic nala development programme (SNDP) but the project has missed several deadlines.
The area falls under Maheshwaram constituency where former education minister Sabitha Indra Reddy was the MLA.
Brindavan Colony in Toli Chowki, P&T Colony in Gaddiannaram ward (LB Nagar), the area around IDL Lake in Kukatpally and Mamata Colony in Nagole are some examples that get inundated during monsoon. Unlike Osmannagar the water here drains out once the rains recede.
Under SNPD, the BRS government proposed to revamp the stormwater drain network in and around the city and 58 works were proposed. Among them 37 are under GHMC limits, of which five major works including at the Hussainsagar and Balkapur nalas are yet to be completed.
