interview applicants. The ‘Super Saturday’ initiative aims to maximise resources and conduct the highest number of visa interviews in a single day.
This marks the fourth “Super Saturday” since the US Mission in India introduced the feature in January last as part of efforts to reduce wait times for first-time visa applicants. The programme is part of a broader strategy to meet the growing demand for travel between India and the United States.
To address the surge in visa applications, the US state department has implemented measures such as remote processing of interview waiver cases for applicants with prior US visas and increasing the number of consular officers permanently stationed at the embassy and consulates.
Mark McGovern, consul-general at the US embassy in New Delhi, said, “This year, we’ve already processed more than one million visas across India. Each visa represents a family reunified, a business deal completed, an educational journey begun, or a first-time tourist experience.”
The US Mission in India continues to prioritise legitimate travel,
processing record numbers of student and employment visas. Interview wait times for all other visa categories have returned to pre-pandemic levels or lower.
