Use Art Forms To Spread Nutrition Awareness: Governor Jishnu Dev Varma

Hyderabad: Using the local folk art forms to spread awareness about food and nutrition is very important in a country that has diverse education backgrounds and multiple languages, said Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, while inaugurating a five-day event organised by Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) to commemorate September as nutrition month on Monday at Koti Women's College.

He said the messages regarding combating anaemia and eating vitamin-rich food conveyed through the art forms were well received by the target audience comprising adolescent girls, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

CBC additional director-general Shruti Patil walked the Governor through the photo exhibition highlighting various aspects of nutrition. The event hosts 40 panels on the theme ‘Nutritious Diet for All’. The Governor appreciated the information displayed in Telugu, which would enable better dissemination.

Shruti Patil said, "The key addition to this year's celebration is the Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi scheme, which is trying to revamp anganwadi centres into holistic hubs of nutrition and education. This approach recognises the important link between nurturing the body and mind for a brighter future."

For the event, the CBC has collaborated with the National Institute of Nutritionon (NIN), the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), the Indian Institute of Millet Research (IIMR) and the women development and child welfare (WD&CW) department of the state government.
