Uttam lauds supply officials for leak-proof distribution

Hyderabad: Minister for food and civil supplies, irrigation and CAD N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday lauded officers in the Civil Supplies Bhavan for achieving the lowest leakage percentage of 0.3 per cent food grains in PDS as against 43 per cent in Gujarat.

This he said is a sharp decline from earlier times when PDS leakage and recycling was rampant in Telangana.

In a release he said, “A study conducted by Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) confirmed this milestone. It is a great achievement of this government that the outstanding loan of the Civil Supplies Corporation which was Rs 4,747.12 crore at the time of formation of Telangana shot to Rs 58,623.08 crore during the previous government.

Within one year in the current government the corporation reduced it by a staggering Rs 11,608.40 crore and brought it down to Rs 47,014.68 crore.”

The Union food secretary, during a recent visit to Telangana, appreciated the performance of the Telangana State Civil Supplies, saying Telangana will be a role model in the country. The state exported rice to 11 states and even foreign countries have evinced interest in purchase of rice owing to its best quality on G2G export basis.

The corporation registered 79 criminal cases against habitual default millers besides initiating RR Act against 41 mills for the recovery of Rs 1,069.63 crore, apart from that Rs 408 crore was realized in form of cash deposited by the defaulters.

The department received SKOCH award for innovative utilisation of weather forecast technology in paddy procurement operations so as to avoid damage to paddy and loss of life due to vagaries of weather.
