Uttam promises promotions, transfers by month-end

HYDERABAD: The delayed and much-awaited promotions and transfers in the irrigation department will be completed by the end of this month, minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy said on Wednesday. The minister was speaking after launching the 2025 diary of the Telangana Assistant Engineers’ Association.

He urged young engineers to uphold Telangana’s rich legacy in the engineering of irrigation projects. “Young engineers should take inspiration from projects such as Nagarjunasagar, Sriramsagar and Srisailam. You are the inheritors of this legacy,” he said, adding that sincerity and integrity in their work would lead to professional excellence.

Promotions and transfers will be completed as per the recommendations of a five-member committee of senior officials that was set up to find ways to overcome legal hurdles that caused the delays.

The minister criticised the previous BRS government, accusing it of unplanned and unproductive expenditures in the irrigation sector. The department is forced to spend Rs 11,000 annually on loan repayment and interest due to the huge loans taken by them, he said, adding that the Congress government recruited 700 assistant executive engineers the Public Service Commission was granted permission to fill an additional 1,300 positions.
