Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Tuesday slammed critics of the ongoing attempts to rescue the eight trapped workers in the SLBC tunnel after a portion of it collapsed trapping them four days ago.
Accompanied by deputy chief minister Mallu Bhatti Virkamarka, and ministers Jupally Krishna Rao, and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, Uttam was speaking with reporters at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel inlet site in Domalapenta village in Nagarkurnool district.
He said it was extremely unfortunate that an accident caused by a natural disaster was being used for “cheap political gains by BRS party leaders who are accusing the government of not doing anything. We got everyone with experience and expertise in finding solutions when such accidents occur and with experience in rescuing trapped people. Some 10 agencies are working round the clock figuring out ways to get to the trapped workers.”
Uttam said neither the Congress party, nor its leaders, ever criticized the BRS government or its leaders when seven people died in a Kaleshwaram project tunnel collapse. We never made that a political issue or attacked BRS politically. What the BRS is doing now is reprehensible when we are trying our hardest and best during a humanitarian crisis. I appeal to all those who are launching political attacks using this tunnel collapse to stop doing so.”
