Uttam Spends New Year Eve with Undertrials
Suryapet: Irrigation and civil supplies minister Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy welcomed the New Year by celebrating with undertrial prisoners (UTs) at the Huzurnagar sub-jail.
During his visit, the minister greeted the inmates, listened to their concerns, and offered words of encouragement and hope for a better future. He shared breakfast with the prisoners and assured them that he would address their grievances with the concerned authorities. Responding to their request for a television set, he announced that he would personally donate one for their use.
Later, Capt. Uttam Kumar Reddy, accompanied by Kodad MLA N. Padmavathi, visited the minorities residential school and junior college for girls in Kodad. The duo shared a meal with the students, talking about their aspirations and challenges. The minister commended the students for their dedication to studies despite being away from their families.
Addressing the gathering, he emphasised the government’s commitment to the welfare and education of minorities, especially girls. He highlighted the importance of such institutions in empowering communities and assured the students that their requests for additional books for competitive exams, an RO plant for drinking water, and digital classrooms would be addressed promptly.
The students, excited by the minister’s visit, shared their experiences and thanked him for his encouragement.
Speaking to the media, Uttam explained his decision to mark the New Year in this manner. “This is a time for reflection and renewal. By reaching out to those in difficult circumstances, whether prisoners or students separated from their families, we remind them that they are not forgotten. This is my way of starting the year with hope and togetherness,” he said. Uttam spends New Year eve with undertrials
