VHR urges Telangana HC to ensure speedy implementation of Hajipur rape accused death penalty
Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao (VHR) wrote a letter to Telangana High Court Chief Justice Alok Aradhye requesting to ensure speedy implementation of capital punishment given to the accused Marri Srinivas Reddy for raping and killing three minor girls at Hajipur village in Bommalaramaram on the city suburbs.
A fast-track gave death sentence to Reddy four years ago. In the letter, Rao draw the attention of the court regarding the legitimate justice in the cases pertaining to three minor girls’ rape and murder at Hajipur village
Terming the offences committed by Reddy as most barbarous, Rao said the accused committed heinous crimes in 2015 and 2019 and all the victims were below 12 years. After violating the girls, Reddy murdered them and threw the bodies in a well.
The offences committed by Reddy came to light when he executed his third crime. Recalling how he consoled the victim’s family members of the three girls and extended financial help to them, Rao said he visited Hajipur at least eight times and personally consoled the victims’ families.
The lower court pronounced its verdict of imposing life imprisonment in one case and death sentence in two other cases to Reddy. However, the punishment given to Reddy could not be executed even after four years of the verdict.
The Hajipur villagers were still worried about the delay in getting punishment to Reddy. “If the punishment given to Reddy is not executed then similar barbarous incidents will continue to occur, and the real culprits will certainly dare to commit these serious offences not honouring the rule of law,” he said.
“We request your good offices to immediately punish Reddy so that similar unfortunate incidents would not recur. The poor people in Hajipur will be rendered the much needed justice with your kind action,” Rao added.
