Video of Youths Performing Stunts on Bikes, Firing Crackers Draws Attention
Hyderabad: The video of a group of youths performing stunts on bikes and firing crackers, probably taken on Diwali on the roads near Hitec City, has drawn much attention on social media.
Raidurgam station house officer Ch Venkannna said that cases were booked against 25 bikers on November 1 and 2. However, the inspector denied that racing was continuing on the stretch. “Racing has stopped completely. We are on patrol 24/7 and haven’t seen any racing.”
He said the videos were of those who perform stunts for social media. “We are apprehending them and seizing their bikes,” Venkanna said. In three months, 325 cases were registered and the bikes seized, the SHO said.
Another official said, “We are booking as many cases as possible. Most of these bikers are minors and come from different parts of the city. After we installed CCTV cameras, tracking was a bit easier, but now they are removing the number plates.”
The official claimed that the police found it difficult to take harsh action as most of the riders were minors. “Sometimes when they see a cop, they overspeed in order to escape. We fear that they might get hurt,” he said.
“They turn up at around 2 am to 4 am, we do not have a force big enough that can take care of them at that time,” the official said. “More often than not they shoot a 90-second reel and leave. In this case, we won’t be able to do much. By the time we reach the place, the biker has left.”
