Vigilance Crackdown on Kakatiya, Satavahana Universities’ Irregularities

Warangal: As part of a crackdown on irregularities in the Kakatiya and Satavahana universities, officials of the state Vigilance and Enforcement (V&E) department issued notices to three former vice-chancellors of these universities in erstwhile Warangal and Karimnagar districts.

Officials on Thursday issued a notice to former vice-chancellor of Kakatiya University Prof. Venkat Rathnam asking him to attend an enquiry pertaining to the regularisation of some employees in 2013 without the consent of the state government.

Based on a complaint from the members of the Association of Kakatiya University Teachers (AKUT), the former VC was asked to come to the regional office of the vigilance department at 11 am on August 16 to submit his version in writing along with relevant documents.

Last month, the state government ordered an inquiry by the vigilance and the Enforcement Directorate into alleged misappropriation of funds of Satavahana University and illegal recruitment done by former vice chancellor Sankashala Mallesham.

Several student unions and members of Satavahana University Protection Forum submitted a representation to the government demanding an inquiry into the irregularities by the VC.

They alleged that along with the VC, finance officer M. Ravinder, registrar P. Prasad and controller of examinations S.V. Sriranga Prasad had indulged in large-scale financial irregularities and made several changes in files following audit report objections for 2022-23.

Two months back, special chief secretary, higher education, Burra Venkatesham issued orders requesting V&E Director General to conduct enquiry against Vice Chancellor of Kakatiya University Prof. Thatikonda Ramesh who completed his term recently.
