Waqf Board Inspector Caught by ACB While Accepting Bribe in Miryalaguda

Following the trap, ACB officials launched searches at Mahmood's residence as part of the investigation. Further details regarding the case are awaited.

Nalgonda: A Waqf Board inspector allegedly accepted a Rs 10,000 bribe in Miryalaguda to forward a survey report on mosque land to the chief executive officer of the Waqf Board, police said on Friday.

The case was registered against Shaik Mahmood, Waqf Board inspector for Nalgonda. Officials of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught him red-handed near the RTC bus stand in Miryalaguda while allegedly accepting the bribe from a complainant, police said.
According to the ACB, a dispute had arisen over land donated to Jameed Masjid at Peddavoora. The mosque president approached Mahmood to send a survey report to the Waqf Board CEO so that the property could be brought under the board’s control. Mahmood, who had surveyed the land along with a surveyor a few days earlier, allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 to forward the report to the CEO’s office in Hyderabad.
ACB officials said chemical tests conducted on both hands of the accused yielded positive results. The tainted bribe amount of Rs 10,000 was recovered from his possession.
The ACB also conducted searches at Mahmood’s residence in Miryalaguda and his office in Nalgonda to verify whether he possessed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
The accused was arrested and produced before the Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases at Nampally in Hyderabad.
