HYDERABAD: Telangana is set for a brief change in weather, with temperatures expected to rise from November 30, bringing warmer and humid conditions to the state, including Hyderabad. This will mark the end of the 10-day cold spell, which had plunged temperatures to record lows. However, the chill is likely to return by the second week of December, as Cyclone Fengal’s influence fades.
Sirpur in Komaram Bheem district recorded the season’s lowest temperature at 7.9°C on Wednesday morning, making it the coldest place in Telangana this year. Adilabad and Nizamabad districts also experienced biting cold, with temperatures dipping below 10°C. In Hyderabad, mornings and nights remained chilly during this extended cold wave.
Dr. K. Nagaratna, director at India Meteorological Department (IMD), Hyderabad, said temperatures are expected to rise in the coming days due to the deep depression approaching Tamil Nadu. “Maximum temperatures will go up to around 27°C in most parts of Hyderabad, and the weather will be humid but not hot,” she said.
Cloudy weather is likely across Telangana from November 30, with the likelihood of light to moderate rainfall ranging from 2mm to 4mm. She said that this is just a short wave and temperatures will go back to chilly ones after the first week of December.
Weather blogger T. Balaji highlighted that Cyclone Fengal will bring slightly warmer winds to Telangana, which will temporarily raise temperatures.
“Rain and cloud cover will dominate until December 7, keeping the state warm. However, by the second week of December, temperatures are expected to dip again, returning to chilly conditions,” he said.
