Water Board Imposes ₹10,000 Fine For Drinking Water Misuse, Reviews Summer And Bakrid Supply Preparedness

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on a person for allegedly misusing drinking water it supplied for non-potable purposes in Banjara Hills.

According to officials, board managing director K.Ashok Reddy, while passing through the main road in Banjara Hills, noticed a person associated with Orange Tree furniture shop on Road No. 12 washing the premises using drinking water supplied by HMWS&SB .

He expressed displeasure over the misuse and directed the manager concerned to issue a notice and impose a penalty on the individual.

HMWS&SB also conducted an emergency review meeting in view of the ongoing summer season and the upcoming Bakrid festival to ensure uninterrupted water supply across the city.

During a teleconference held with senior officials and joint managing director Mayank Mittal, the MD said the next 48 hours would be crucial due to increased water demand during the festival period. He instructed operations and maintenance and transmission officials to work in coordination.

During the meeting, officials informed that strong winds early Wednesday morning had caused power disruptions in the Manjeera Phase-1 and Phase-2 systems, affecting pumping operations and leading to temporary water supply interruptions in some areas.
