Water release from NS left canal stopped due to leak

Khammam: Irrigation officials halted the release of water to the Nagarjunasagar left canal on Saturday after it sprang a leak at a recently repaired section. The leak was detected just minutes after the water was released.

The canal had breached at Ramachandrapuram in Kusumanchi mandal on September 1 due to flooding. Temporary repairs were completed using sand-filled packets, stones, and other material, and 500 cusecs of water released from the Palair balancing reservoir for irrigation. Water began leaking at the repaired breach site shortly after. This left disappointed the farmers who had anticipated receiving water on Saturday after a gap of 20 days.
