Welfare sops by Cong. historic: Uttam
Karimnagar: The welfare and developmental schemes introduced by the Congress government in Telangana will leave a lasting impact on history, claimed irrigation minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy during a review meeting held at the Collectorate conference hall in Karimnagar on Sunday. The meeting was attended by IT minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu and transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar, along with officials from various departments.
Highlighting key initiatives, Reddy stated that under the Rythu Bharosa scheme, farmers cultivating agricultural land will receive ₹12,000 annually, excluding lands used for roads, real estate, or non-agricultural purposes. Additionally, the Indiramma Atmiya Bharosa programme will provide ₹12,000 to farm labourers, a first-of-its-kind initiative in independent India.
Uttam Kumar Reddy emphasised the government’s efforts to support farmers, including the ₹22,500 crore loan waiver and a ₹500 per quintal bonus for fine rice sold. Despite no water usage from the Kaleshwaram project, the state achieved a record 155 lakh metric tons of paddy production during the monsoon season, covering 667.7 lakh acres. Farmers also received payments within three days of selling their produce.
The government has filled 55,000 job vacancies and allocated ₹22,500 crore for constructing 3,500 Indiramma houses in each constituency. Major lift irrigation projects such as Rondal Wagu, Pattipaka, and Palakurthy are also prioritised for completion, Uttam added.
