Women Lead 4 Departments of SCR
Hyderabad: For the first time, women officers are leading four key departments — commercial, operating, security and medical — in South Central Railway.
K. Padmaja, an IRTS officer, is heading two key departments. As the principal chief commercial manager, she heads the commercial department that manages passenger services including ticketing and reservations. She also takes care of the operating department, which plays a key role in the handling of passenger and freight train operations and punctuality, among others.
Aroma Singh Thakur, an IRPFS officer, is leading the security department as the inspector-general cum principal chief security commissioner, while Dr Nirmala Narasimhan, an IRHS official, is heading the medical department as principal chief medical director.
Arun Kumar Jain, general manager, expressed happiness that four departments were being headed by women officers for the first time. He stated that this is a testament to the proficiency of these officers and the growing strength of women in different fields.
The general manager said that SCR has been at the forefront of promoting women's empowerment by undertaking various initiatives to improve the participation of women in leadership ranks. The role of these women officers as principal heads of key departments would inspire more women to reach new heights of success, he averred.
