Work on Kothagudem Airport in 6 Months: Pongulleti
Bhadradri-Kothagudem: Revenue Minister Pongulleti Srinivas Reddy announced on Friday that the process to set up an airport in Kothagudem will start in six months.
During the inauguration of the 3 km long central lighting system from Vepalagadda to Bhrundavam in Sujathanagar mandal, being developed at a cost of Rs 2 crore, the minister said that the airport will be established at Rudhrampur near Kothagudem and Singareni.
Forest and private lands will be acquired for the construction of the airport, which is expected to improve connectivity to Kothagudem.
“People from different parts of the country travel to Kothagudem for work in Singareni Collieries and to visit their relatives working in coal mines,” he added.
The minister also mentioned that he will collaborate with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to develop infrastructure and facilities in the Singareni area. An indoor stadium is planned to be set up in Singareni.
“It has been decided to conduct the Eru festival on January 9 in the district. In the tribal language, Eru means water. The festival will be held at the ghats of the Godavari River,” he said.
Highlighting the state government's commitment to developing agency areas in Bhadradri-Kothagudem district, the minister said that district authorities have been directed to explore the tourism potential in the area to create employment for locals.
Later, the minister laid the foundation stone for a high-level bridge being constructed at Reddygudem in Palvancha mandal at a cost of Rs 1 crore.
Khammam MP Ramasahayam Raghuram Reddy, Kothagudem MLA Kunamneni Samba Shiva Rao, and district collector Jithesh V. Patil attended the programme.
