Hyderabad: A youth died by suicide allegedly after being attacked by the family of his girlfriend, who belongs to the upper caste, within Kukatpally police station limits in the wee hours of Tuesday.
According to Kukatpally CI Surender Rao, Sunil, 22, was pursuing undergraduation and also worked as a labourer to earn meagre income. “The family of the girl, whom he fell in love with, was unhappy as the boy belonged to a lower caste and would harass him often,” the CI said.
Before taking his life, he sent a cellphone message to himself: “(the girl) and her family are the reason for my death... they brought up the disputes which happened long ago and are torturing me...”
At around 1.30am on Monday, a scuffle broke out between Sunil and the girl’s cousin who hit him on the head.
At around 5.30 am, the victim’s brother, Sridhar (19), found Sunil dead. A case was registered under Section 306 of BNS and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, the CI said. Further investigation is underway.
