Youth Gets 20 Years RI in POCSO Case in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The XII Additional Sessions Judge in Nampally sentenced a 19-year-old Gummula Nagaraju to 20 years rigorous imprisonment (RI) in connection with a POCSO Act case registered against him in 2019.

The court has also imposed a fine of Rs.16,000 on him. According to police, the 16 year-old victim girl, was acquainted with Nagaraju who promised to marry, visited her house and committed sexual intercourse several times.

On February 25, 20219 the victim girl missed her periods and confirmed that she is pregnant for which the accused asked her to abort. On March 2, 2019 the accused forcefully took her out and sexually assaulted her and video graphed her by beating her up.

After the incident, the accused used those photos and videos as a tool to keep her under his control. The accused started to show the obscene clips to his friends and threatened the victim girl.

On March 7, 2019, the accused threatened and took her to Necklace Road and, at midnight, he sexually assaulted her in the bushes. When the victim tried to call her father, the accused switched off the phone and he shifted her from one place to another.

The next day the girl switched on the phone and called her father. Based on her complaint, the police booked a case at Gandhinagar police station and forwarded to Bharosa centre for recording of 180 BNS statements.

The Bharosa team provided constant counselling sessions to assist the victim and her family. Additionally, they offered moral and emotional support through consistent follow-up sessions. The family was exceedingly happy to hear about the conviction.
