Union Ministers, MPs-elect from AP Take Oath as Member of Lok Sabha

Vijayawada: Three Union ministers and several MPs-elect from Andhra Pradesh have taken oath of office and secrecy administered by the pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab in the Lok Sabha in Delhi on Monday.

Union minister for civil aviation K. Ram Mohan Naidu from Telugu Desam, Union minister of state for rural development Dr Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani from Telugu Desam and Union minister of state for heavy industries Bhupathi Raju Srinivasa Varma from BJP took oath of office as members of Lok Sabha.

Similarly, MPs-elect Mathukumilli Sribharat (TD) from Visakhapatnam, D. Purandeswari (BJP) from Rajahmundry, Vallabhaneni Balashowry (JS) from Machilipatnam, Kesineni Shivanath (TD) from Vijayawada, Lavu Srikrishna Devarayalu (TD) from Narasaraopet, Kalisetti Appalanaidu (TD) from Vizianagaram and others also took oath of office as members of the Lok Sabha. Some of them took oath in Telugu language while some in English.

Interestingly, MP-elect Kalisetti Appalanaidu drew the attention of his colleagues and other members when he arrived at the Parliament riding on a bicycle from his guest house while his family members were following him in a car. He also wore a traditional dress of Kurta and Pyjama while arriving at the Parliament to take oath as a member of Lok Sabha. It may be mentioned that late Puchchalapalli Sundarayya commuted to Parliament on a bicycle earlier showing his modest style of living.

In a separate development, BJP MP Daggubati Purandeswari met the Union minister for commerce and industry Piyush Goyal and Tobacco Board chairman and members and requested them to waive off the penalties being imposed for cultivation of tobacco crops in excess. She said that the Union minister assured to initiate necessary steps to address the issue. She said that such a decision would benefit the tobacco farmers in a big way, in a post on ‘X’.
