YSRC Central Office at Tadepalli Demolished, Vizag Offices Notified
Vijayawada/Visakhapatnam: Mangalagiri-Tadepalli Municipal Corporation (MTMC) authorities demolished opposition YSRC’s central office that is under construction in Tadepalli of Guntur district during the early hours of Saturday, calling it illegal.
Excavators and bulldozers started the demolition around 5:30 am and razed it to the ground.
Former chief minister and YSRC president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy condemned the action taken by the Telugu Desam-led government. In his post on X, he said, “Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is resorting to political vendetta. The dictator has demolished YSRC’s central office with bulldozers, ignoring the orders of the High Court.”
Jagan Mohan Reddy said through these acts, Naidu is giving a message about how his regime is going to be for the next five years. The YSRC chief, however, said his party will not bow before such threats and political vendetta. He vowed to fight on behalf of the people. He appealed to all democratic forces in the country to condemn these acts of Naidu.
Earlier, the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) had issued notice to the opposition party over the alleged illegal construction. Following this, the YSRC approached the High Court on Friday, challenging the CRDA notice. The YSRC leaders claimed that the court had ordered a halt to any demolition activity. The same had been conveyed to the CRDA commissioner by YSRC's lawyer.
According to CRDA and MTMC officials, YSRC office is being built on the land of the irrigation department. There are allegations that the YSRC regime headed by Jagan Mohan Reddy had taken the land used for a boatyard on lease for a small amount. It is said the construction has been taken up without taking any approvals from either the CRDA or MTMC.
Former AAG and advocate Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy said the state government is working without observing the law and without honouring the orders of the High Court. He recalled that the earlier Chandrababu Naidu dispensation enacted G.O. 340 to build offices for recognised parties.
“Rulers may change. But the law does not change. The orders of the judiciary have also been violated,” he remarked.
Sudhakar Reddy pointed out that Telugu Desam has taken land for party offices in every district at ₹1,000 per acre. YSRC also legally took two acres according to the same yardstick. He stated that when they challenged the notice in the High Court, officials told the court that due process will be followed. Yet, the demolition had been carried out violating the law.
In a separate development, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) issued a show-cause notice to YSRC regarding the unauthorised construction of its party offices in Yendada village and Anakapalli. The notice, issued on Friday, June 21, 2024, directed the party to immediately stop all construction work and submit a reply within seven days.
GVMC Town Planning officer S. Varaprasada Rao stated that the party had applied for building permission with the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA), instead of obtaining permission from the GVMC, which has jurisdiction over the site.
