SPF to take over security of Telangana Secretariat with immediate effect

Chief Secretary A Santhi Kumari issued an order to this effect here on Wednesday in response to a request made by the Director-General of Police (DGP) stating to issue instructions to the Director-General, Special Protection Force (SPF) to take over security from TSSP as the SPF is specialized and trained to protect establishments like industries, buildings, airports, etc.

The government, after careful examination of the matter, asked the Director-General, SPF to take over the security arrangements at the Secretariat, with immediate effect. The OCTOPUS and the Hyderabad city police would continue to attend to the responsibilities, the Chief Secretary said, adding that the DGP would take necessary further action in the matter.

The order assumed significance at a time when wives of several police constables of TSSP battalions were arrested when they tried to stage a protest at the State Secretariat on Friday demanding fair treatment of their husbands.
