Sports University to be set up to encourage sports in Telangana: Bhatti
Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu on Tuesday said the State government was setting up a Sports University to encourage sportspersons representing Telangana to participate in world sports competitions and enable them win maximum gold medals.
Speaking after inaugurating the government employees’ sports meet on the occasion of Sports Day at the LB Stadium here on Tuesday, he said the State government was paying special attention to sports.
“In life there is everyday struggle between success and failure. Those who win strive to win again and those who lose try to win the next time. The motivation and inspiration one gains through sports helps one in life,” he explained.
When Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy went to Korea, he learnt that sports persons from one university there won gold medals on a large scale. When he analyzed the reasons for such tremendous success, he identified that bestowing special focus and allocation of funds were two crucial factors that enabled university students to bag several gold medals, he said.
Thus the State government has decided to set up a Sports University on the same lines in Telangana ensuring maximum representation to Telangana in the world sports meet and pave way for winning maximum gold medals. This is the State government’s strong will and sincerity, he said.
Bhatti said Hyderabad has world class sports grounds and the government is ready to organise any sports event. The State government has recently met the Union Sports Minister in Delhi and requested for an opportunity to organize a sports meet.
Bhatti said he recently called Sports Authority Chairman Shivasena Reddy, who became a leader from the Youth Congress and requested him to focus on sports development and assured that the State government would extend its support.
Accordingly, Shivasena Reddy prepared a report detailing what sports events are to be organised in which district. The State government was ready to provide funds for organising sports competitions and the sports grounds constructed by previous governments would be repaired and developed.
In residential schools earlier there used to be one period for sports and measures will be taken hereafter to allot one sports period in all government and private schools.
