PV Sindhu to submit joining report as deputy collector today

She will be placed in training for two years.

Vijayawada: Badminton champion P.V. Sindhu will report to the duty as deputy collector on Wednesday, and she will be placed in training for two years. The government is willing to waive the training upon her request, to allow Sindhu to focus on her sports career. In this regard, a special GO on training exemption will have to be issued. The Andhra Pradesh government had on July 27 issued orders appointing the 2016 Rio Olympics silver medallist as deputy collector.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu handed over the appointment letter to Sindhu the same day at the Secretariat in Amaravati. According to the order, Sindhu has to join duty within 30 days and report to the Special Chief Secretary and Chief Commissioner of Land Administration (CCLA), Vijayawada, with relevant certificates. She will be allotted for appointment as the deputy collector and will have to undergo training as per the government rules.

Sindhu will meet CCLA Anil Chandra Punetha on Wednesday and submit her joining report. The orders said Sindhu should execute a bond stating that she would serve the government for three years after the completion of training. She will be on probation for two years within a continuous period of three years. During the probationary period, she will have to pass the mandatory tests conducted by the government. If Sindhu follows the norms, she would be eligible for the conferment of IAS cadre by the UPSC within nine years.
