BCCI Allows Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Parents on Tour

Board to cover expenses as 15-year-old prodigy prepares for maiden senior India assignment in Ireland and England.

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has permitted the parents of teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to accompany him on India’s upcoming tour of Ireland and England, recognising the need for family support as the 15-year-old prepares for his first assignment with the senior men’s team.

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the decision was taken considering Sooryavanshi’s age and the challenges of adapting to international cricket.

“As he is a child, we have decided to allow his parents to accompany him to Ireland and England, so that they can be with him and help him settle in the new environment. The Board will cover all their expenses,” Saikia said.

The move echoes a similar moment in Indian cricket history when Sachin Tendulkar was accompanied by his elder brother Ajit during his debut tour of Pakistan in 1989 at the age of 16.

Sooryavanshi is currently representing India A in the tri-nation series in Sri Lanka. With growing attention surrounding the youngster, BCCI officials believe the presence of his parents will provide crucial emotional support as he takes his first steps in international cricket.

The Bihar-born left-hander shot to prominence following a remarkable IPL season with the Rajasthan Royals, scoring 776 runs at an impressive strike rate of 237.30. His performances earned him a place in the senior national setup, making him the youngest player selected in an India men’s squad since Tendulkar’s emergence in the late 1980s.

During his IPL campaign, Sooryavanshi was often accompanied by Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder, who played a mentoring role within the franchise setup.

India’s T20I series against Ireland begins on June 26. Sooryavanshi and India captain Tilak Varma could miss the final of the ongoing tri-nation tournament in Sri Lanka, scheduled for June 21, if India A qualifies. A decision on their availability is expected in the coming days.
