Border Gavaskar Trophy, 1st Test: Bumrah wins toss, opts to bat first
Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy make their test debuts as team India captain Jasprit Bumrah won the toss and chose to bat first in the opening match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy on Friday here at Perth.
Shubman Gill, who sustained a left thumb injury during Day 2 of match simulation at The WACA was not considered for selection for the the match, said the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
"We are going to bat first, looks like a good wicket. Very confident with our preparation. We played a test match here in 2018 so we know what to expect. The wicket gets quicker. Nitish makes his debut. We have four quicks and Washi is the lone spinner," Bumrah said after winning the toss.
Australia skipper Pat Cummins confirmed the debut of young opener Nathan McSweeney. "We were 50-50, either way er are pretty happy. Feel well placed. Pretty fresh. Any format we play seems fiercely fought. Nathan McSweeney makes our debut at the top of the order," Cummins said after toss.
