Longest Test ducks: Rishabh Pant joins company of Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina

Rishabh Pant joined Irfan Pathan and Suresh Raina who had previously scored a 29-ball duck.

Mumbai: Team India's young wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, whose first scoring shot in Test cricket was a six, joined the company of Irfan Pathan and Suresh Raina. All had faced 29 balls before being dismissed for a duck.

Pant joined Pathan and Raina after he failed to open his account on Day 2 of the fourth England versus India Test in Southampton on Friday.

"Cricket is a funny game and has different situation in different matches," Irfan Pathan said.

"In my case (second innings), staying at the wicket was more important than scoring runs because we had to save the Test (against Pakistan at Bangalore in 2005)."

India, however, lost that Test by 168 runs.

"Pant is a young player and a good learner of the game. If he took more time in this Test, may be it was difficult to face the balls".

Interestingly, India's all three – Pathan, Raina and Pant – are left-handers and were the victims of off-spinners (Arshad Khan, Graeme Swann and Moeen Ali (ongoing Test).

"Sometimes it is little difficult for the left-handers to play against the off-spinners but that is not the case always. It is a coincidence," he added.

"I won't say I am happy to have more batsmen in my company for this record," Pathan concluded.
