IPL player retention: VVS Laxman on SRH's 'impact' cricketers Bhuvneshwar, Warner
Mumbai: Former India cricketer VVS Laxman sounded optimistic about Sunrisers Hyderabad when asked about the team setup ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, which is set to take place on January 27 and 28 in Bengaluru.
Speaking during the IPL retention event, Laxman said that creating an impact on the team was important.
"It is important to pick up the right kind of players who can create an impact. That is why we have the likes of David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. David has impressed us with his skills," he said.
The duo of David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were retained by the Hyderabad franchise on Thursday during the IPL player retention event. One big surprise omission from the retention point of view was Shikhar Dhawan, who was not retained by the team.
He further stressed on the fact that every team member would be given equal opportunities.
"We take pride in giving each and every member in our team every opportunity," he added.
There was no surprise from most of the other teams, as Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni were retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings respectively. Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals retained Axar Patel and Steve Smith respectively.
The action now shifts to Bengaluru, as the IPL gears up for the much-awaited auctions.
Big names, including Ben Stokes, Chris Gayle among others will come under the hammer during the two-day event.
