I was lucky to be MS Dhoni's first ODI stumping: Ex-Bangladesh batsman Rajin Saleh

MS Dhoni on Sunday became the first wicket-keeper to achieve 100 stumpings in One Day International cricket.

Mumbai: Former Bangladesh opener Rajin Saleh has stated that he was lucky” to be Indian wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s first stumping victim.

MS Dhoni on Sunday became the first wicket-keeper to achieve 100 stumpings in One Day International cricket after Yuzvendra Chahal got the wicket of Akila Dananjaya in the fifth ODI against Sri Lanka.

" MS Dhoni has achieved all the success in his life and I feel lucky to be his first victim in the ODIs”, he said, speaking exclusively from Dhaka on Monday.

Saleh was batting on 82 when Dhoni got his first stumping of his ODI career in the third ODI against Bangladesh in Dhaka back in 2004.

The 33-year-old also spoke about Sachin Tendulkar who got his wicket back then.

"Sachin was an experienced player, though not a regular bowler. I thought I would be able to score runs more freely and complete the hundred. But Sachin knew how to bowl at the batsman who is well-settled. I became victim of his googly and Dhoni made no mistake when I went forward to hit a big shot", said Saleh about his dismissal.

He also spoke about how he felt on missing out on a century. "It was painful that I missed the century by 18 runs. My young son still asks me why I could not score a hundred in the match".

"Dhoni is my most favourite player. He is very calm and cool. I also loved his captaincy,” he added.

"I wish him many more success in his career", the 34-year-old right-handed batsman Saleh signed off.
