This day that year: Remembering Sachin Tendulkar's first ODI century

Sachin scored 110 against Australia to bring up his maiden ODI century.

Mumbai: For someone, who made 49 ODI centuries and is the only cricketer ever to score 100 international 100s - it’s surprising that Sachin Tendulkar took 78-games to score his maiden ODI century.

On this day (September 9) in 1994, the golden boy of Indian cricket made his first ODI century as he scored 110 of 130 deliveries against Australia in the Singer World Series played in Sri Lanka.

Opening the innings, the ‘little-master’ dismantled the Aussie bowling attack which comprised of Craig McDermott, Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne. Tendulkar hit eight fours and two sixes during his innings as India ended up with 246 for 8 in 50 overs.

Later, Indian bowlers also joined the party as they restricted Australia for 215, winning the match by 31 runs.
