Score after 47 overs, India 130-10 (trail by 162 runs): Ishant 2(7), Ashwin 33(48); Woakes 10-2-24-2

London: England picked up a 2-0 lead in the five-match Test series on Sunday with a splendid victory by an innings and 159 runs in the 2nd Test at Lord’s. After the hosts declared at 396-7 in the second innings, Virat Kohli and co found in difficult to deal with the top quality swing bowling once again.

James Anderson delivered a fantastic start, dismissing openers Murali Vijay and KL Rahul inside six overs. Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara settled well but their time at the crease was cut short thanks to Stuart Broad. Hopes were pinned on skipper Kohli, who was nursing a minor back strain, to keep the innings alive. But Broad struck a huge blow by dismissing him and Dinesh Karthik on consecutive deliveries in the 31st over.

Hardik Pandya and Ravichandran Ashwin absorbed pressure with a vital fifty run stand but Chris Woakes put an end to the partnership. The tailenders soon tumbled like ninepins as the Joe Root’s men eased into a comfortable victory.

India 131-10 after 47 overs:

ALL OVER! Woakes puts an end to the game as Ishant Sharma flicks one towards Ollie Pope at leg slip.

India 127-9 after 46 overs:

LBW! Shami goes for the big swing down the line. Misses it by a mile and is struck on the back pad as the umpire raises his finger straightaway.

India 121-8 after 44 overs:

BOWLED! Anderson pitches it outside off, swinging it away but Kuldeep chops it onto the stumps after a big inside edge.

India 116-7 after 43 overs:

LBW! Woakes hits it on a good length between middle and leg. The ball nips back and hits Hardik just above the knee roll as he goes to defend it. England call for a review and HawkEye shows the ball crashing the top of leg stump. Great call!

India 102-6 after 39 overs:

HUNDRED UP! Visitors reach the 100-run mark with six wickets down. Can they survive the day without losing any more wickets?

India 66-6 after 32 overs:

LBW! Broad is on fire and on a hat-trick now. A sharp inswinger takes Dinesh Karthik by surprise as he lunges forward in defense. The batsman opts for a review but HawkEye says it's umpires call with impact marginally in line and hitting wickets.

CAUGHT! Broad gets the big fish and the innings defeat now seems evident. Banged in short, Kohli gets a deft touch off the glove as he nicks it towards leg in the path of Pope who takes a sharp diving catch.

India 51-4 after 28 overs:

BOWLED! Broad gets the big fish and troubles continue for India. Sharp inswinger takes Pujara by surprise as he tries to play inside the line. The ball strikes the pads and knocks the off stump.

India 35-3 after 19 overs:

WICKET! Broad strikes and Rahane hangs his head in disappointment. Full and wide, invites the batsman for the drive who nicks it towards Jennings at slips.

Lunch:

Covers have been called on and play has been interrupted because of rain. It was once again James Anderson causing the bulk of the damage for England in the 3rd innings, accounting for the wickets of KL Rahul and Murali Vijay. The umpires meanwhile, have opted to call for an early lunch.

India 15-2 after 7 overs:

LBW! Anderson has struck again and India is in shambles. Sharp inswinger to Rahul and it's plumb as he misses the flick. The opener shakes his head as he heads back to the pavilion.

India 0-1 after 3 overs:

WICKET! Vijay 0-2 Anderson. Pitched outside off, pegs sharply back into the batsman who gets an inside edge. 100th Test wicket for the "muscle man" at Lord's at his 550th overall.

2nd innings:

After finding themselves in a precarious position, England have bounced back through Chris Woakes and Jonny Bairstow, declaring at 396-7 with a mammoth lead of 289 runs. India have a big challenge at hand as their batsman aim to keep the Lord's Test alive.

England 396-7 after 88.1 overs:

CAUGHT! Hardik Pandya bowls it full outside off, Curran slashes hard and it flies to Shami who takes an easy catch at third man. Joe Root from the dressing room calls his men back and England have declared.

England 376-6 after 86 overs:

FIFTY PARTNERSHIP! Despite Bairstow's dismissal, young Sam Curran has stitched a vital stand with Woakes in the middle.

England 362-6 after 82 overs:

OH NO! Virat Kohli was off the field on Saturday during the latter stages and hasn't turned up today, nursing a minor back strain. Rahane takes charge in his absence.

Preview:

After Jonny Bairstow and ton-up Chris Woakes have virtually knocked India out of the second Test on Saturday, an inspired fightback or rain washing out the proceedings will be the only options which will see Virat Kohli and his men going into the third Test with 0-1 scoreline instead of 0-2.

While Mohammed Shami managed to raise India’s hopes after the hosts were reduced to 131/5, England will resume the Day 4, with 250-run lead, with four wickets still in hand, here at the Lord’s on Sunday.

There have been 92 per cent chances of rain on Sunday in London. However, the raingods seem to be favouring England in this Test. After a washout on Day 1, Day 2 saw England winning the toss and then James Anderson running through the Indian batting line-up on a cloudy day.

Day 3 was mostly about the sunshine and even as India managed to scalp five wickets before tea, England made the most of the sunshine and put India onto the backfoot, securing 250-run lead.
