Team India's ICC World T20 2007's hero Joginder Sharma's father stabbed, robbed
Rohtak: In what was a shocking turn of events, cricketer-turned-policeman Joginder Sharma’s father, Om Prakash Sharma, was stabbed and robbed near his shop in Rohtak.
Joginder Sharma, who bowled the final over during the India versus Pakistan final in the inaugural edition of the ICC World Twenty20 Championship in 2007, filed a complaint about the incident.
Sharma, in his complaint, said, “They first tried to take cash from my pockets. But when I tried to stop them, one of the boys took out a knife and tried to stab me in my stomach. I stopped him by holding the knife in my hands. They then entered my shop and took all the cash from the drawer. They took nearly Rs 7,000,” reported Hindustan Times.
The incident occurred on Saturday as the 68-year-old Om Prakash Sharma was closing his shop. It was leant that the two youngsters, in early 20s, attacked Sharma senior with a knife. It was also reported that the two had bought cold drinks and cigarettes before returning to attack Joginder’s father.
It is also learnt that the two also locked the door of the shop from outside as Om Prakash Sharma called his other son, Deepak, for help.
“He suffered knife injuries in his hands when he tried to stopped them from stabbing him in the stomach. He has been discharged now,” the report quoted Deepak as saying.
As MS Dhoni and co went to beat Pakistan in the final of ICC World T20 2007, Joginder, despite being hit for a six, kept his nerve and helped India win the trophy.
