Crowd goes wild as Mahendra Singh Dhoni waves to the fans in Ranchi Test
Ranchi: India may currently be toiling in the Jharkhand Ccricket Association Stadium in Ranchi, but former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was seen watching the national side’s gripping contest against Australia on the fifth day of their third Test against Australia, in his home town.
Dhoni, who could not attend the first four days of the Test due to his Vijay Hazare Trophy commitments with Jharkhand, was present at the Ranchi stadium on Monday.
Dhoni’s Ranchi had a good run to the semifinals of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which they lost to Bengal.
The Ranchi crowd, who had little to cheer about during the fifth day, immediately went into a frenzied delirium, as Dhoni’s image appeared on the giant screen, as the local hero waved to his faithful fans.
India, who posted a mammoth total of 603 in their first innings, in reply to Australia’s 451, were looking to inflict an innings defeat upon Australia on Monday, to take a 2-1 lead in the four-Test Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
However, Peter Handscomb and Shaun Marsh guided the visitors past the safety mark.
