ICC World T20: Andre Fletcher flays Sri Lanka in big win
Bengaluru: Andre Fletcher blasted an unbeaten 84 off 64 deliveries (6x4, 5x6) as the West Indies defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets in a low-scoring ICC World T20 Group 1 Super 10 clash here on Sunday.
Chasing 123, the Windies paced their chase well and crossed the line with 10 balls to spare. Earlier, what was tipped to be a run fest at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium turned into a low-scoring affair as the West Indies bowlers struck collectively to restrict Sri Lanka to a below-par 122.
At a packed stadium, leg-spinner Samuel Badree (3 for 12) starred but a late fight back from Thisara Perera gave something for the Lankan fans to cheer about. Meanwhile, there was bad news from the West Indies camp as Chris Gayle pulled his left hamstring while fielding. According to the West Indies media manager Phillips Spooner, the destructive Gayle has been advised rest and would have batted only if needed.
