Every team shines ball like du Plessis, says Steve Smith
Adelaide: Australia skipper Steve Smith has come out in support of South Africa captain Faf du Plessis, who has been found guilty of ball-tampering, earlier this week.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) fined du Plessis his entire match fee, after video evidence surfaced, showing the South Africa skipper using a mint in his mouth to put extra shine on a ball.
The Australian team or Cricket Australia did not refer the incident to ICC. In fact, it was reported by the match officials.
Australia captain Steve Smith came out in support of du Plessis on Wednesday, saying that every team in the cricketing world shine the ball the way du Plessis did.
"Every team around the world shines the cricket ball," Smith was quoted as saying in Australian cricket news portal Cricket.com.au.
"I have seen Faf's comments in his press conference. And I make it very clear that we haven't come out and said anything about Faf or about how he was shining the ball or anything like that,” Smith continued. "We along with every other team around the world shine the ball the same way."
