Bengaluru: The Indian Premier League (IPL) auctions on Sunday came to a close here, with big-hitting West Indies’ batsman Chris Gayle ending up with Kings XI Punjab for Rs 2 crore.
As it happened: Day 2 of IPL auction
Gayle was third time lucky when he was finally purchased by the Punjab franchise after being unsold on two previous instances.
The highest-paid cricketer in this edition of the IPL auction was England’s Ben Stokes, who was snapped up by rajasthan Royals for Rs 12.5 crore.
Meanwhile, Jaydev Unadkat became the most expensive capped Indian cricketer, as he, too, was purchased by the 2008 champions.
However, there were some notable names who went unsold, including South Africa’s Aiden Markram, who has looked good in the Test series against India.
Meanwhile, his country teammate Lungi Ngidi joined MS Dhoni’s men at Chennai Super Kings, having been bought for Rs 50 lakhs.
It was on Saturday when Ravichandran Ashwin was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 7.5 crore. Thereby, he will be playing for the Punjab franchise along with Axar Patel, who was earlier retained during the player retention event.
Yuvraj Singh will also represent for his home team Punjab after being acquired for Rs 2 crore.
Royal Challengers Bangalore, who have never won the coveted trophy, too made some important signings.
While they bought Brendon McCullum for Rs 3.6 crore, they also snapped up Moeen Ali and Quinton de Kock for Rs 1.7 crore and Rs 2.8 crore respectively.
New Zealand’s Colin de Grandhomme was also another buy, having been purchased for Rs 2.2 crore.

Shah Rukh Khan co-owned side had retained the West Indian duo of Sunil Narine and Andre Russell before the auction and ended up shelling out the entire amount of Rs 59 crore during the IPL 2018 auction to buy the following cricketers.
Mumbai Indians (MI)
The defending champions and three-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians had retained Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah and bought the following cricketers during the IPL 2018 Auction in Bengaluru.

Rajasthan Royals, who had retained Steve Smith before the auction, went on an absolute rampage of spending big during the auction. Here are the cricketers that they bought.

They had retained Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers and uncapped Sarfaraz Khan before the auction and managed to but the following cricketers during the IPL 2018 auction.
