Spectators at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium “bled blue” as India-Australia came face-to-face in a pulsating encounter here on Sunday night. It was a double header for the fans who gathered in large numbers early in the day to cheer the women’s team in the afternoon match, followed by the Men in Blue.
Many donned the India jerseys with almost the entire stadium bathed in blue as support poured in. Fans even travelled from Delhi, Mumbai and neighbouring cities of Punjab as there was a frantic demand of passes.
The 37-year-old Sophie, who arrived from Sydney, said they were enjoying the festive environment. “It is nice and warm here, people are very welcoming and we couldn’t have missed this game. The Indian crowds are passionate about cricket and we are hoping for an electric atmosphere,” she said.
