World Cup 2023 Schedule Change Confirmed
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may change the date of the much-anticipated World Cup match between India and Pakistan which was scheduled to take place on October 15. Jay Shah, the BCCI Secretary confirmed that the World Cup 2023 schedule will have some changes.
The decision has come in the light of three ICC full members raised objection vis-à-vis the schedule. However, the venues will remain the same. And perhaps, the date is not the only change, there are other changes on the horizon as well.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah told reporters, “We have received requests from 2-3 ICC member boards participating in the World Cup to make some changes to the schedule. What’s important to note is that we don’t have to make any changes to the selection of the venues.”
The India-Pakistan match falling on the first day of Gujarat’s widely popular Navaratri festival might be the impetus for a change in the match's schedule. Local police units might be overstretched overseeing the security arrangements for both these mega events. Jay Shah, however, categorically denied that the game has been postponed due to security issues.
Even though no other dates have been officially announced, it has been heard that efforts are being made to hold the match on October 14 in order to avoid serious upset to the plans of the ICC's sponsors, suppliers, and cricket fans who may have already reserved hotels and flights to Ahmedabad.
The further space between certain matches might be decreased in light of the schedule alterations of the previous matches. A clearer picture of the alterations and adjustments to be made to the 46-day event's initial timetable, however, will be visible only after 3–4 days.
