We were outplayed by India, says Alastair Cook
Mohali: England captain Alastair Cook minced no words in his assessment of England’s performance in Mohali.
Cook said the visiting team did not make the most of the advantage they got after winning the toss.
“It was a good toss to win,” said Cook. “But if you get bowled out for 280 you won't win games. You need to get 400 on this pitch at least. We knew from the last time we beat them after getting them out for 300.
“We had a little bit of a sniff with them at 200/6 but they managed a good total. It’s frustrating not to cross 300 off late. We need to improve on that if we have to win games of cricket here.”
Cook also praised India's performance and admitted that the visiting team was outplayed by the hosts.
“Credit to India, they've outplayed us. We have few days off now so we can go our separate ways a bit.”
Haseeb Hameed has been ruled out of the remaining two Tests due to a finger injury. The skipper was full of praise for Hameed, who scored an unbeaten 59 for England in their second innings despite being injured
“To play like that with his injured finger, shows courage and bravery. Hameed has to go home unfortunately and have a plate put in his hand. There's no doubt we'll see him again in an England shirt."
