Virat Kohli Becomes First Player to Score 9,000 IPL Runs

The milestone came during a clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium

Virat Kohli, the legendary Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter, etched his name in history on April 27 by becoming the first player to reach 9,000 runs in the Indian Premier League. The milestone came during a clash against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Delhi entered the match low on confidence after a heavy 265-run chase defeat to Punjab Kings, a game that also saw Lungi Ngidi suffer a head injury. They were searching for just their fourth win of the season, while Bengaluru came in with momentum after beating Gujarat Titans.

In 274 matches and 266 innings, Kohli has scored 9012 runs at an average of 39.95 and a strike rate of 133.76, including eight centuries and 66 fifties, with a highest score of 113. This season, he sits sixth in the Orange Cap race with 328 runs in seven matches at an average of 54.66 and a strike rate of 162.18, including three fifties and a top score of 81.

Kohli has been especially dominant in run chases. Since 2023, he has scored 1,087 runs in 21 chase innings at an average of 72.46, falling for single digits only once. Fourteen of those innings ended in successful chases, where he accumulated 881 runs at a remarkable average of 110.12. Bengaluru’s win percentage rises sharply when Kohli scores a fifty, highlighting his impact.

With consistent performances and multiple 600+ run seasons since 2023, Kohli remains central to Bengaluru’s batting strength, alongside players like Phil Salt, Rajat Patidar, and Tim David. He is also closing in on another milestone, needing just 72 runs to reach 400 runs in an IPL season for the 11th time.
