Euro 2024 has advanced into quarterfinals and the tournament is getting more exciting and tense.
The tournament started with 24 nations, now its narrowed down to 8. Major teams like Belgium and the defending champions Italy have been knocked out of the tournament.
In the Round of 16, several matches were tightly contested. Slovakia was ahead 1-0 against England and seemed poised for the quarterfinals, but England staged a comeback with Bellingham's equalizer during injury time, followed by Harry Kane's winning goal in extra time.
The tournament witnessed only one match that proceeded to a penalty shootout, which was between Portugal and Slovenia. Portugal's captain Cristiano Ronaldo, was seen in tears after missing a penalty, yet he scored during the shootout. Portugal advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 victory in the shootout, thanks to Diogo Costa saving three penalties.
Spain has been one of the dominant teams, remaining unbeaten in the tournament. They secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Georgia in the Round of 16. Given their current form, Spain is considered a strong contender to win the tournament.
The Host Germany and Netherlands had registered comfortable wins in the Round of 16.
The quarterfinals will begin with two big matches, the host Germany will face Spain and the 2016 Euro finalists Portugal and France will face each other again.
England will lock horns with Switzerland and Netherlands will play Türkiye in the other two quarterfinal matches.
