The legendary player was in Mumbai recently as a part of 'I love United India', a fan based event which took place at Reliance Jio Gardens, Bandra Kurla Complex.
The former Manchester United full back shared his insight on current state of Manchester United team.
Excerpts from the interview:
There are speculations about Jose Mourinho taking job at Old trafford next season. Your thoughts?
It is always going to be media speculation. But Louis Van Gaal is always going to be the manager of Manchester United. Jose does not have any job right now. But you got to respect Louis.
Do you think appointing Ryan Giggs instead would be a good idea?
That’s not my opinion. Gaal has another 15 months to go. Results aren’t that great in the last three months. But we have to accept that. We will be delighted to finish fourth this year.
Who do you think will win the Premier League this season?
Leicester has surprised everybody this season. Arsenal also has played really well this season. The race to the title will be a very tight one.
Do you think that Manchester United can still attract top players?
Definitely yes. Unlike teams like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus you are in the market for the same players, and what players look out for is success at top club and this is what the club can provide.
Should Michael Carrick be given extension as his contract is set to expire in July 2016?
Michael is one of my favourite players. That’s the decision of the management.
Your thoughts about Antonio Conte taking up Chelsea job?
Denis Irwin: Well, he has managed Juventus before and has done good job. I am sure he will continue with good work wherever he goes.
