Flashy Brazil fans grab the eyeballs
Moscow: There were so many Brazilian fans present at the Spartek Stadium here on Wednesday that it appeared that Brazil played Serbia at the Maracana. The unexpected exit of Germany just before kick-off sent them into raptures, as they all know their country can’t be humiliated by a 7-1 margin again, in Russia.
An impromptu procession taken out by Brazilian fans before the Serbia match caught the attention of all. Even Serbian supporters stopped to exchange pleasantries with the samba group. An unsuspecting German fan became the butt of all jokes when he bumped into the procession. He left the scene with the message of the defending champions’ ouster ringing in his ears.
Armed with fancy wigs and weird head gears in bright yellow and green, Brazilian fans savoured the build-up like only they could. Their mood was even brighter after the match as Neymar and Co. had easily dispatched Serbia to seal a place in the Round of 16. The Selecao fans returning to their hotels monopolised Metro lines with their singing and dancing.
Wearing Ushankas — Russian fur caps — two Brazil fans did their best to enliven a tiring journey away from the Spartek Stadium. They invited everyone who boarded the train with dramatic gestures while posing for selfies with Russian women. When a youth got into the train with a pizza box, the two vocal Brazilians made sure that everyone in the compartment knew that someone was carrying the famous Italian food by chanting “pizza, pizza, pizza...”
When a girl sitting nearby showed annoyance after being nudged inadvertently by one of the Brazilians, the duo apologised so profusely in a comical way that the victim had no choice other than laughing.
