From Slum to T20 World Cup: Miyagi's Inspirational story

Uganda is set to play in the 2024 T20 World Cup and 21-year-old Miyagi will be playing for the African country in the tournament.

Miyagi comes from Kampala, the capital of Uganda where 60 percent of the population lives in slums. He lives in Naguru slum where there is no clean drinking water as well as no quality treatment.
Miyagi fights daily to meet his minimum needs and buy essentials. He doesn’t have a proper job to support his family but his love towards never stopped.
The 21-year-old has so far taken 34 wickets in 21 international T20s. The younger cricketer still lives in slum with his family.
In Uganda, a footballing nation, cricket has gained popularity in recent years. Abhay Sharma from India, who took over as the head coach of the Uganda team, said that there is an opportunity to take Miyagi as an example and come to the national team from the slums.
"Some of the players come from very poor backgrounds. It is inspiring to see them playing for the national team. I never thought they would live in such conditions. They respect the coaches. They believe that we will change their lives. For this country to grow in cricket, we need better infrastructure. The game should be introduced at the under-16 level. Now here there are only two grounds. There is a situation to fight for the Kookaburra balls and nutritious food. The team is doing well in bowling but the batting needs to improve," said Abhay.
Uganda will play their first match in the World Cup against Afghanistan on Monday.
