Sports management courses come of age
Bengaluru: Ever thought the growth of the Indian sports sector would contribute to education trends in the subcontinent? Well, this is turning into a reality now with Bengaluru being one among the cities to offer a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) degree specialised in Sports Management.
According to Ashwin Ajila, Founder and MD of i-Nurture, an education solutions firm who has spearheaded the inception of the course, India’s move towards a multi-sport nation has added to the scope of designing such a course.
“The success of Pro-Kabbadi League apart from Indian Premier League depicts the potential of other sport leagues coming up. Thus, the demand for professionals capable to manage the complete life cycle, from spotting to sporting events is on the rise in our country,” he said. Pointing out the growth of the industry, which clocks a sponsorship “close to Rs 650 crore,” Ajila added, “The course aims to offer graduates with an experience of covering many domain-specific subjects along with a two-week study visit to Paris to expose students to sports management in Europe.”
The course, jointly offered by Galileo-iNurture, has bagged a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Mysore, which will be award the Indian degree for the programs along with a diploma/certification from MBA ESG, a leading global business school based in France.
Officials said that the approval process of the Academic Council and Senate of the varsity for the curriculum and syllabus is underway at the moment.
For Dr T. Venkat Vardhan known for his contributions to the live international entertainment sector in India, providing practical knowledge to Indian students is expected to be a game-changer. “Providing practical knowledge to the students is something of paramount importance. Thus, it is important for graduates to gain certain skill sets at the time of pursuing studies itself to equip them for the industry,” he said.
