Sanjay sets new record, Karnataka swimmers shine

Sanjay CJ sizzled on the opening day of the 43rd Glenmark junior national aquatic championships.

Bengaluru: Sanjay CJ sizzled on the opening day of the 43rd Glenmark junior national aquatic championships as the 14-year-old bettered his national record at the Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre on Tuesday. The Dolphin Aquatics trainee stopped the clock at 1:58.21 seconds to rewrite his previous year’s record of 1:59.90 seconds en route to his Group II 200M freestyle gold. Saif Chandan KS (2:05.91) of Karnataka took the silver while Rudransh Mishra (2:06.00) of Maharashtra took the bronze. At the end of Day One, Karnataka led the medals tally with 10 gold, five silver and two bronze ahead of Maharashtra who have four golds, three silver and four bronze.

Aaliyah Singh of Uttar Pradesh also set a new national record with a 1:17.76 seconds effort in the Group II 100M breaststroke. She broke AV Jayaveena’s four-year-old record of 1:17.85 seconds. The last of the national record came in the Group II 4x100M freestyle where Karnataka team (3:51.79s) bettered their two-year-old mark of 3:54.49 seconds.
