Nithya is youngest medal winner from Telangana
Hyderabad: Sri Nithya Sagi bagged a bronze in the Girls 200 metres backstroke to become the youngest swimmer from Telangana to win a medal at Khelo India Youth Games on Saturday.
The 13-year-old clocked 2 minutes 28.72 seconds to finish behind Karnataka’s Ridhima Veerendrakumar, who took gold in 2:24.45 and second-placed Palak Joshi (2:27.96) of Maharashtra at the War Heroes Swimming Complex in Ambala, Haryana.
That was Telangana’s only medal of the day. The State lies 24th on the medal table with one gold, three silvers and seven bronzes.
Andhra Pradesh archer Kunderu Venkatadri reached the Boys Compound final with a 145-143 victory over Maharashtra’s Prathamesh Jawkar.
In the girls, Madala S Hamsini of Andhra Pradesh lost her Compound semifinal match 143-144 to Aditi Gopichand Swami of Maharashtra.
